Kincaid Shelter Archaeological Site

The Sabinal River flows for about 40 miles from Lost Maples SNA across Uvalde County and passes the base of a roomy rock shelter used by Paleoindians dating back 13,000 years. The Kincaid Shelter Archaeological Site was discovered in 1947 by Gene Mear and has been the subject of study by archaeologists for more than 70 years. What makes this site so exciting is the rock pavement that was laid by a semi-permanent band of hunter-gatherers, evidently to make the shelter more habitable.

The Coronavirus interrupted our Photographic visits to these museums. Our journeys will continue!
